Project overview
The Baapa Restoration Project aims to reforest and restore degraded agricultural land around the Mbaracayú Forest Natural Reserve in Paraguay’s Canindeyú Department.
The project works with local forestry expertise and stakeholders. A diverse mix of native species is intended to initiate ecological recovery, sequester carbon and create habitat where biodiversity can flourish.

Restoration beside the reserve can create an additional buffer against pressure from illegal logging and land degradation.

The project aims to involve local and Indigenous communities through employment opportunities and participatory development.

Our approach
Restoration planning combines native species selection with site-specific knowledge of the degraded agricultural landscape. The objective is to establish the conditions for a resilient forest ecosystem rather than simply create uniform tree cover.
The project’s participatory approach is intended to protect community access to natural resources and cultural heritage while creating local employment. Collaboration with local organisations supports technically appropriate activities and ongoing risk management.
